The 411 on Etsy Images
Nothing is worse than creating a complete resource prepped with an eye-catching cover image… only to have it show up oddly cropped in certain Etsy Platform Formats.
As of March 2024, Etsy currently uses 3 ratio options for the images they display: 1:1, 4:3, 5:4.
The formatting shifts based on the device (mobile, desktop), type (PC, Mac, Android), and even location on the site (search results, page listing, bottom suggested listings, etc.). That means your cover image may appear as a square on a desktop search results page, but as a stubby rectangle on the actual listing page or mobile device.
It’s super important that your images are visually appealing in all formats. You also need to make sure all important information is shown.
The Best Etsy Cropping Ratio
So between the three cropping ratios that show up on Etsy’s platform, which one do I recommend? The 4:3 ratio is your best choice, but be sure to center your text as well!
Etsy will take your 4:3 image and display it in all 3 of the cropping ratios on their platform. The 4:3 crop provides you with the most usable space to create your cover image.
Pro Tip: I like to check my image with transparent shapes in the other cropping ratios to make sure everything will look great!
